Rev. Earnest Salsberry as university chaplain

Dillard University has appointed Rev. Earnest Salsberry as the school's new chaplain and director of the VisionQuest program, which encourages students to seek God's guidance in considering important life and academic decisions. A Dillard graduate, Salsberry served as interim chaplain and director of VisionQuest during much of the fall 2014 semester, and will start his new role this month.

Toya Barnes-Teamer, Dillard's vice president for student success, said Salsberry "has been able to mobilize not only the campus community but has invited several religious leaders of other denominations to campus to serve our students." Salsberry, Barnes-Teamer added, "has brought a level of spirituality to the campus that engages all stakeholders, especially our students, in an unprecedented manner. The students love him, which is the most important thing to me."

A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Salsberry received a master's degree in divinity from Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta with a concentration in psychology of religion and pastoral care. He completed post-graduate studies in clinical pastoral education.

He graduated from Dillard in 2006 with a bachelor of art's degree in vocal performance and music. An ordained minister, he also works in the music ministry at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans.
