Emerging Scholars Program

Welcome to the Dillard University Emerging Scholars Program. This mandatory, residential summer program is designed for all Conditionally Admitted students. The program will provide an academically stimulating and culturally motivating experience. The goal of the Emerging Scholars Program is to increase the number of students who successfully matriculate through the undergraduate curriculum by enhancing their reading, writing, analytical and critical thinking skills, while heightening their cultural and social readiness.  The restructured program not only provides academic support during the seven (6) week summer experience, but provides tutoring, academic counseling and mentoring throughout the freshman year and beyond.

 

Program Goal: To identify and enroll prospective Dillard students and equip them with the academic skills and cultural capital which will enable them to persist through college graduation.

 

Program Dates: June 15, 2016 to July 30, 2016

 

Admission to Dillard University Deadline: April 1, 2016 (for Emerging Scholars program)

 

Required Participants: New Fall 2016 applicants/students who are Conditionally Admitted to Dillard University

Dillard University Emerging Scholar program cost for 6 hours is $600 (includes tuition, fees, housing and meals) for the entire program. Books and supplies are not covered within the $600.

Federal financial aid is not available for Emerging Scholar students for this summer program. Students are responsible for the purchase of their books. Emerging Scholar students are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Courses Offered

 

Courses offered during the Emerging Scholars program are based on the students ACT/SAT test scores. Courses will be selected depending on the sub score in English, math and reading. The state of Louisiana requires that all students successfully complete developmental courses in English, math and reading should their sub score fall below an 18 in English, a 19 in math and a 17 in reading. Students who score higher in those areas will be placed in the appropriate college level course for that subject matter. 

 

Assessment

 

In addition to lecture examinations, quizzes and rubrics designed to evaluate specific assignments, standardized examinations will be used as pre and post program assessments.
