Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Chair of the School of Nursing. This position is a tenure-track or tenured position as an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Nursing, which requires teaching, research and service. Tenured faculty with Chair experience is preferred. The appointment is effective August 1, 2013. The Chair’s position reports to the Dean of the College of Professional Studies.
Position Overview: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in some area of Nursing. The Chair is responsible for the administration and promotion of all affairs pertaining to the academic well-being and morale of the department. This responsibility involves such activities accreditation, faculty counseling and guidance, student advising and counseling, curriculum planning, scheduling, maintenance of academic relevancy, and all budgetary considerations. The Chair also recommends faculty leaves, student employees, teaching appointments, travel, and expenditures to the Dean of College of Professional Studies.
Essential Duties and Functions: • Recruit, recommend, direct, and retain a sufficient full-time and part-time faculty to meet the needs of the School of Nursing. • Submit an annual evaluation of each faculty member to the Dean. • Maintain faculty files, including documents supporting the employment and academic credentials of faculty in accordance with university policy on credentials. • Provide for the ongoing professional development of faculty. • Work with faculty to create, implement, and assess courses and curriculum. • Implement course and program improvements based on planning, goal setting, and assessment. • Recommend to the Curriculum Committee new courses and programs of study, changes in courses and programs of study, and elimination of courses and programs of study. • Supervise and evaluate School administrative assistants and other staff. • Administer the School budget and oversee travel requests/expenditures and supply/equipment purchases. • Supervise student academic advisement assigned to the School, including course scheduling, ongoing curriculum/grade tracking, and graduation Audits. • Prepare term and annual schedules of classes for inclusion in the master schedule of courses. • Direct the development of catalog material and other publications concerning the academic programs of the School. • Assign faculty office space and coordinate faculty support services for the School. • Submit an annual report of School activities and prepare other reports as required. • Conduct regular (at least monthly) meetings of the School faculty, keep minutes of school meetings. • Attend Academic Affairs meetings with the VPAA and other Academic Affairs personnel as scheduled. • Develop and implement a divisional student recruitment program, participate in and direct school participation in overall college recruitment activities, and participate in promotional activities by providing program and personnel information. • Teach courses for the school as required. • Serve on college and University committees and boards as required. • Provide leadership for college programs supporting curriculum as required. • Provide overall supervision of buildings and other facilities assigned to the school. • Oversee student evaluations of instructors/courses and maintain evaluation forms and analyses of evaluations. • Support college economic development activities as needed. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and VPAA. • Participate actively in community activities and encourage school faculty and staff to participate. |
