Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Archivist and Special Collections Librarian.

General Job Description
The Archivist and Special Collections Librarian will process collections using archival accessioning  techniques; provide services to researchers; catalog and process books; identify materials needing repair and conservation; ensure use of proper preservation techniques; shelve materials; help prepare information and collections for web-based use; promote the archives and special collections on the website and through social media; write grants and develop programming for archives; and perform any other function necessary to the operation of a special collections library.

Primary Responsibilities
•    Process incoming and backlogged collections by accessioning them into the main collection.  Processing includes organizing the materials and conducting necessary conservation practices; re-housing documents in acid-free folders and containers; creating an inventory; and preparing a collection guide.
•    Assist on-site researchers at the Will W. Alexander Library by explaining library and archival policy, conducting reference interviews, identifying and retrieving research materials, photocopying documents, and monitoring the researcher.
•    Answer online and e-mail requests by searching for the materials, producing required reproductions, corresponding with researchers, and mailing materials.
•    Collaborate with the Library Director in setting policy determining preservation practices, reproduction and usage fees, research use of the collections, and copyright issues involved in digitization.
•    Assist the Library Director in maintaining the library’s website and other digitization projects.
•    Process gift books by identifying those relevant to the collection and cataloging them. Also catalog books purchased by the library.
•    Supervise student interns and volunteers in various library and archival tasks.
•    Handle daily library duties including answering visitor’s reference questions, shelving books, maintaining the stack area, and ordering archival supplies.

Qualifications The candidate should have at least five years experience supporting library and archives operations, including collection preservation, online migration, maintenance and digitization of collections. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of securing funds for archive and special collections activities, developing programs for archives and special collections, promoting archives and special collections through social media, coordinating and completing projects with limited resources, and working in a collaborative culture. Experience in research support is required. A Master of Library Studies (MLS) degree is required; a Ph.D. in Library Studies is preferred.
