2014 Summer Youth Leadership Institute

Summary of Program:  Dillard University’s Summer Youth Leadership Institute-2014 celebrates the Civil Rights Movement through a Leadership Initiative.  In addition, this two-week program is comprised of six enrichment components:  Academic Enrichment, Environmental Awareness, Economic Development, Social Entrepreneurship, Health and Wellness, and Community and Civic Engagement.  Students will also be exposed to various cultural enrichment activities and prominent guest speakers.

Date of Sessions:

Session I:  June 9 to June 20, 2014 (Grades 8-9)

Session II:  July 7 to July 18, 2014 (Grades 10-12)

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (All Age Groups)

Tuition: $200 per student  Lunch will be provided.

Dillard University's 2014 summer enrichment programs cater to a variety of interests and age levels. Some of them come with little or no expense. Pre-Engineering Program (PREP)

This camp is designed to increase the number of minorities and women entering mathematics, science and engineering professions. 

Students: 8th - 10th Graders

Session: June 16 - July 18, 2014

Hours: Monday- Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Tuition:  $400

Theatre/Art/Music Summer Enrichment Camp

This camp will be held for 3-4 year olds, 5-10 year-olds, and 11-13 year-old artistic and muscially inclined students. (There are two slots left in the 3-4 year-old camp.)

Our camp is staffed with certified teachers, professional artists, and current college students with a passion and knowledge of the arts, and who can inspire aspiring artists like your son/daughter.  The camp encompasses theatre, visual arts, music, swimming, sports, sign language, writing and math.

This year our culminating performance will be The Wiz. The show will run July 12 - 20, 2014.  If your child would like to audition for a main role in the production he/she will have to audition. Auditions will be held May 17, Noon - 2 p.m. and May 18, 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Those who fail to audition for a major role in the production will be considered for a part in the chorus. Students attending both sessions participate in the performance finale.

The summer camp will be held in two sessions: Session One: June 2 - July 2, 2014.  Session Two: July 7 – Aug. 1, 2014.  Camp begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.  Before care will be provided beginning at 6 a.m.  Aftercare will begin provided from 4 – 6 p.m.  Camp cost is $350 per session (this includes their t-shirts) and lunch is $50 per session. Payments can be made bi-weekly prior to the start of each two-week session. Field trips will be paid separately. All field trip fees will be collected the Monday before the field trip.  Field trips are every week and could as much as $10, with the exception of Laser Tag and Chuck-E-Cheese.

Upward Bound

The six-week program runs from June 16 - July 26, 2014, Monday -Thursday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m; and Fridays 9 a.m. - noon. The program is free, and available to rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders attending McMain, John McDonough, Lake Area or Joseph S. Clark Sr. Prep high Schools.

Students will focus on grade level math, Spanish, Science, African American History, creative writing and ACT prep. Additionally, students will learn time management, study skills and participate in cultural events. The summer component is designed to decrease regression of skills, expose students to the college experience by residing on campus, and expose students to cultural experiences in other states as they visit other colleges/universities.

Dillard and New Orleans Recreational Development Commission Summer Camp

Dillard University will host a DU Fitness Camp (DUFIT) sponsored by the New Orleans Recreational Development Commission from June 2-July 11.

The camp will be held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 3  p.m. Fee is $250 per child.

Children ages 4-12 may attend the camp which includes basketball, volleyball, track, aerobics and character education.

Required documents for the summer camp include: Completed summer camp application (which can be found at, proof of Orleans Parish Residency (copy of driver’s license or utility bill), proof of income for one full month with a 2014 date (pay stubs, SSI or food stamp award letters); if no income, a notarized statement to that effect, a copy of a 2013-2014 report card, and registration fee (cash or money order please, no checks will be accepted.) Incomplete packets will not be accepted. The spots fill up quickly and are on a first come, first serve basis.
