NEW ORLEANS—Dillard University has begun its move back to campus, as the University recovers from a power outage that occurred early on the morning of February 26. The phased move back to campus began with University leaders returning to their offices March 1. Today, residents of Williams Hall and Straight Hall are returning to their rooms. Residents of Camphor-Hartzell Hall will return March 3.
The power outage, which affected a portion of Dillard’s buildings, occurred as a result of an equipment failure on Dillard’s campus. Because of the extended estimated time of recovery, residents of the affected halls–Williams, Straight and Camphor-Hartzell–were transported to the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. Other students, who were able to do so, opted to commute to their home cities or towns. An earlier outage, which was also brought about by equipment failure due to an animal, occurred February 20.
Dillard’s president, Dr. Rochelle L. Ford, lauds the partnership of several entities. Among them are Entergy for their assistance through both equipment failures as well as Loyola University New Orleans for providing dining services and wifi service in the Monroe Library. The Norman Mayer and Nova Navra public libraries also offered Dillard students two hour guest passes to use their wifi.
