NEW ORLEANS – For the first time since 2019, the nationally renowned Dillard University Concert Choir will perform the annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 4 in Lawless Memorial Chapel. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the event will begin at 7 p.m.
The theme of this year’s concert is “A Child is Born,” in honor of Dr. Rochelle Ford’s first holiday concert as Dillard University’s eighth president.
The concert choir, which features 35 student voices from across the country, is led by Professor S. Carver Davenport who is in his 47th year as director. Davenport holds Dillard’s Ray Charles Endowed Professorship in Music.
The 86th annual concert will feature special guest soloist Kayla Boyd Sanford ’15, a vocal music coach, current music education master’s degree student at Jackson State University and worship leader at Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Mississippi.
The choir will perform selections such as “Anthem of Praise,” with the Dillard Diamonds dance team, along with the New Orleans Civic Symphony Musicians, as well as two a cappella selections entitled “Children Go Where I Send Thee” and “Mary Had a Baby.” The program will end with the singing of G. F. Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” It promises to be a wonderful night of singing during this festive season.
