Accreditation
Dillard University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; telephone
number (404) 679-4501, fax number (404) 679-4500, to award the bachelor of science
in nursing degrees.
Dillard is also accredited by the Louisiana Department of Education to offer the bachelor
of arts degree in teaching and is listed by the University Senate of the United Methodist
Church.
Dillard is a member of the Council for Higher Education, United Church of Christ.
Dillard is also a member of the Association of American Colleges and the American
Council on Education. The Dillard University Nursing Program is accredited by the
Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing to offer the bachelor of science
in nursing degree. The University is also approved for training under the provisions
of Public Laws 346, 16 and 550 by the Veterans Administration. Accreditation material
is available through the Office of the President.
Governance
Dillard University is a private, historically black, faith-based liberal arts institution.
As specified by Dillard University’s Articles of Incorporation, the Board of Trustees
has the ultimate responsibility for the University’s policies. The organization of
the University is structured so that the policies set by the Board of Trustees may
be implemented under the leadership of the president. Policies that are of an academic
nature originate with the administration and faculty and are reviewed, evaluated and
approved by the board.
The President reports directly to the Board. President Walter M. Kimbrough is the
Chief Executive Officer of the University and administers all united of the University
in a manner consistent with its mission, purpose and by-laws. The trustees, president,
faculty and staff pledge that Dillard University will continue to serve as a pillar
of higher education by developing graduates who are broadly educated, culturally aware,
concerned with improving the human condition and able to meet the competitive demands
of a globally and technologically advanced society.
