Chicago native Dazjah Samuels '20 named Dillard University salutatorian

NEW ORLEANS – Dazjah Samuels ‘20 has been named the salutatorian for the Dillard University class of 2020. The graduating class comprises 220 students and the University will host a virtual degree conferral program in place of its 84th Commencement exercise on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 11 a.m., via the University website to honor their academic excellence.
Samuels, a Chicago native and biology major- chemistry minor, earned at 3.9 grade point average during her undergraduate career. Samuels participated in the following: Residence Hall Association, Sister 2 Sister, Pre-Alumni Council, Melanin Model Association, LAMP, Thompson/Cook Honors Program: Parliamentarian (2018-2019) & President (2019-2020), Senior Class Council: Secretary, Alpha Chi National Honors Society, Beta Kappa Chi National Honors Society, and Alpha Kappa Mu National Honors Society.
“Dazjah is articulate, analytical, and conscientious; a quiet achiever, a solid performer, goal oriented, a hard worker, and a self motivator,” Dr. Lovell Agwaramgbo, chair and professor of Chemistry said of Samuel’s academic fortitude. “These are the words I have used and continue to use to describe her yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
Samuels has been accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. In June, she will be working at Banfield Pet Hospital’s Student Job Program. Samuels served in Dillard University President Dr. Walter Kimbrough’s PODUS (President’s Organization of Dillard’s Up-and-coming Superstars) and is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Dillard University’s 84th Commencement is tentatively scheduled for an in-person exercise Saturday, December 12, 2020. More details will follow throughout the year as the University, local and state governments monitor the development of the coronavirus pandemic.
