NEW ORLEANS – Dr. Rochelle L. Ford, president of Dillard University, has announced that Dr. Charles B.W. Prince will join the University as its new transformation and sustainability officer, effective January, 2023. In his new role, Prince will be responsible for the University’s strategic planning process, the UNCF transformation project and leading student retention efforts.

President Ford describes Prince as a dynamic academic leader who is full of energy and committed to student success. She and Prince worked closely at Howard University where he grew their Jumpstart Program into a super site that engaged university students through Americorps to support young elementary children for school success. “I trust Charles to be student-centered, data-informed and strategic to help students graduate on time and help our staff and faculty create, implement and evaluate our strategic transformation to become more effective and efficient in our operations — thus excellence,” Ford said.

Prince has spent time at Virginia Union University (VUU) where he served as the interim vice president of enrollment management, associate vice president of research and innovation and chief operations manager, and co-director of the Center for Transcendent Leadership. Prince is currently a professor of educational practice at UNICAF teaching post-graduate educational leadership courses online in Africa. He served as the chair of the Learning and Teaching Symposium, director of the Centre for Student Success, and as a university appointed trustee for the student’s union at the University of East London in England. Prince also served as the strategic leader for research partner success at the Educational Advisory Board (EAB). At Howard University, Prince directed the Office of Student Success and Transition and the site manager for Jumpstart for Young Children Inc.

Prince’s publications including two co-authored with Ford:  “Setting a New Agenda for Student Engagement and Retention at Historically Black Colleges and Universities” and “Administrative Challenges & Organizational Leadership in Historically Black Colleges and Universities” (Hershey, PA: IGI – Global). Prince’s dissertation was “Advancing Retention Strategies at Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” and he presented “Exploring Creativity & Innovation in Higher Education” at the 36th Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience in Atlanta. In addition, he has secured over $10 million in external funding to support student initiatives.

Prince earned his Ed.D. in global executive leadership from the University of Southern California, his master’s degree in educational leadership and human development in the field of international education from George Washington University, and his bachelor’s degree in composite social studies (secondary teacher education) from Southwestern University.
