Multi-Grammy Award winner PJ Morton is Dillard University’s 2021-2022 artist-in-residence. In his capacity, Morton conducts master classes in songwriting, music publishing, studio production and talent management. The artist-in-residence program is housed in the Samuel DuBois Cook Communications & Performing Arts Center. Students have the opportunity to gain professional work experience through internships in merchandising, studio production, management and videography.

A native of New Orleans, Morton gained attention after his 2017 breakthrough LP “Gumbo”. Since then, Morton has released six self-produced albums. He has 10 Grammy nominations including three wins. Morton has also been nominated for BET, Soul Train and NAACP Image awards. Morton’s 2020 project, “Gospel According to PJ”, won Best Gospel Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

The New York Times says Morton’s music “runs the influences of Allen Toussaint and Stevie Wonder through bevy ideas from R&B’s more recent decades.”

In addition to his solo career and his full-time role as keyboardist of Maroon 5, Morton currently runs his own record label, Morton Records. He has served as music director for Solange and has collaborated with the likes of Erykah Badu, JoJo, Kirk Franklin, Lil Wayne, Rapsody, Stevie Wonder, Tyler Perry, Yebba and dozens of others.
