NEW ORLEANS—Dillard University is inviting all students, alumni, stakeholders, community members, faculty and staff to be a part of “Mission Day: Campus Beautification,” which is an inclusive effort to embellish the “Jewel of Gentilly”. The event will take place on Saturday, August 6 from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with planting, landscaping, cleaning-up the grounds, freshening bulletin boards and providing installation of signage in preparation for the fall semester.

In 2020, Dillard was ranked as one of the nation’s 50 most beautiful college campuses by Cosmopolitan. Like in many parts of Louisiana, Dillard continues to make repairs from Hurricane Ida.

“While the campus facilities staff and additional contractors are working diligently to make necessary repairs to the buildings, Dillard, like most employers, faces a labor shortage,” said  President Rochelle L. Ford, Ph.D., APR.  “Our alumni and community partners have asked how they can partner to support our mission to cultivate leaders, and this Mission Day allows them to volunteer to help enhance our learning environment, which will help us cultivate leaders complimenting the progress our staff has already made.”

Volunteers will meet in front of Kearny Hall at 7 a.m. and should bring their own gloves and gardening tools. For more information contact 504-816-4640
