NEW ORLEANS, LA – Dillard University invites the community to its annual Earth Day Celebration on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day’s events are spearheaded by Dr. Ruby Broadway, Professor of Biology, Delta Sigma Theta Distinguished Professor Endowed Chair, and ACUE Distinguished Teaching Scholar, who has led efforts to promote sustainability and environmental education at Dillard The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m., and will include:
- The official unveiling of the newly renovated greenhouse sign and commemorative plaque
- A celebratory ribbon cutting to mark the reopening of the renovated space
“I am thrilled to present the newly renovated greenhouse to our campus and community. This space will provide invaluable resources for our students—not only as a hub for learning and experimentation, but also as a place to spark deeper, more meaningful conversations about food scarcity, sustainability, and the environmental issues that affect our daily lives,” says Dr. Broadway.
The Earth Day Celebration will be held on the university’s campus and will feature a variety of interactive and educational activities designed to raise awareness about environmental stewardship and sustainable living. Activities include:
- Earth Day Awareness Education
- Environmental Educational Learning
- Eco Living: Tips on efficiency, energy-saving practices, and clean living
- Recycling Guide: How to recycle smarter and reduce waste
- Gardening: Hands-on learning about plant care and sustainability
- Arts and Crafts: Eco-friendly activities for all ages
