HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra to visit Dillard during “Build Back Better” visit to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — As part of his visit to New Orleans to highlight the Biden-Harris administration’s plans to combat COVID-19 and “Build Back Better,” U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra will visit Dillard University Friday, August 27. The secretary is scheduled to arrive on campus at 12:45 p.m. during the University’s “Pathway to Normalcy” free vaccination drive in the Student Union and Health and Wellness Center.

Becerra will convene a group of leaders for a “vaccine confidence” roundtable discussion. Afterwards, he will address the media during a press conference. Included in the roundtable are:  President Walter Kimbrough (Dillard), President C. Reynold Verret (Xavier University of Louisiana ), Assistant Secretary Dawn O’Connell of the Office of Preparedness and Response, U.S. Representative Troy Carter (LA-02), Governor John Bel Edwards and Mayor LaToya Cantrell. The roundtable will highlight President Joe Biden’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’ efforts to eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. while expanding access to quality, affordable health coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

Becerra will visit Dillard after visiting Children’s Hospital New Orleans LCMC Health. Details are subject to change.
