Roshaun Ambrose named interim head coach

NEW ORLEANS—After 15 years at Dillard University, Norbert Rome, head coach of the women’s basketball program, will be moving into the next phase of his career.

“We thank Mr. Rome for all he has done at Dillard,” said Dr. Linda Bell, director of athletics. “His dedication to the Bleu Devils was valuable, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

A Dillard alumnus, Rome has led the Lady Bleu Devils to three Gulf Coast Athletic Conference titles, two tournament championships and one in the regular season. In 2018 and 2019, the Lady Bleu Devils earned berths to the NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Over 20 players have been selected to GCAC All-Conference Teams, eight were named NAIA All-Americans, over 40 were named to the GCAC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, and 16 were recognized as Daktronics Scholar Athletes, among other awards and honors.

Roshaun Ambrose has been named interim head coach, effective immediately.

Ambrose joined Dillard’s coaching staff in September 2022. Previously, she served as an assistant coach at Xavier University of Louisiana for two seasons where she helped the Gold Nuggets to a conference tournament championship, regular season championship and two NAIA national tournament appearances. Prior to Xavier, Ambrose spent eight seasons at Southern University at New Orleans, six as the lead assistant coach and two as interim head coach. During her time at SUNO, she helped lead the team to two Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament championships, a regular season GCAC championship and two NAIA national tournament appearances, including a program-best “Sweet 16” appearance in 2015. Between Xavier and SUNO, Ambrose coached two GCAC Players of the Year selections, a GCAC Newcomer of the Year, a GCAC Defensive Player of the Year, numerous all-conference players, six NAIA All-Americans, and the 2015 Mid Major HBCU Player of the Year.
