Deeper Student Learning I: Pathway to Success in STEM
The Dillard University Deeper Student Learning I (DU-DSL) Program aims to smoothly transition incoming freshman from High School to Dillard University as a Stem major. The program is designed to increase student success by creating an environment for students that implements a holistic approach to learning. DSL I program is a residential summer bridge program designed to improve student achievement by identifying and implementing instructional strategies, which improve postsecondary learning and retention, resulting in completion of a degree in STEM field. DSL I Program will utilize strategies based on best practices in creating a learner-centered environment and assisting students in STEM programs.
DSL I students will engage in summer enrichment activities and a series of enrichment activities during the academic year. There will be a five-week summer DU-DSL I STEM Program for PRE-STEM students. DSL I’s goal is to boost students’ skills and confidence in biology, mathematics, chemistry, computer science, and physics courses. DSL I Program will be introducing courses that are experimental designs through authentic research in course-associated laboratories.
