"Let the People Decide" traces the history of voting rights struggles in the U.S. from 1960 through the present day. The documentary draws parallels between the Mississippi voter registration drive of the early 1960's and North Carolina's "Moral Monday" movement in the present day. After the film, there will be a panel discussion moderated by producer and director Gavin Guerra with panelists:

April 8, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. SYNDEMIC: COVID-19 AND HEALTH DISPARITIES Virtual Presented by the Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center and A Studio in the Woods
Syndemic: COVID-19 and Health Disparities is the inaugural scholar-in-residence program, Inspiring Health Justice. The collaboration between MHHDRC and Tulane University’s A Studio in the Woods focuses on COVID-19 health disparities with the first scholar-in-residence being Dr. Sacoby Wilson, an associate professor of applied environmental health at the Prevention Research Center at the University of Maryland, College Park. The aim of Inspiring Health Justice is to bring the arts and public health together to address our region’s long standing health disparities through creative, cross-disciplinary mentorship to focusing the energy and passion of Dillard art students towards fostering health equity.
The virtual art opening will showcase the work of four Inspiring Health Justice Dillard University students-in-residence:

Film studies majors Hildevert Lafeuille and Juwan Saint Charles

April 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. THE RELATIONSHIP OF DIABETES & COVID-19: A HEALTH DISPARITY Virtual Presented by the Minority & Health Disparities Research Center and the Dillard University Professional Organization of Nurses
The informational webinar will provide information about how the life-threatening relationship between diabetes and COVID-19, particularly in minority communities. Dr. Peter Fos, a MHHDRC researcher, will present findings from research that he has conducted.

April 16-17, 2021 VIRTUAL CONFERENCE ON MENTORING Virtual Presented by the Leadership Alliance and Dillard University
The two-day free virtual conference, themed "Realizing Your Mentoring Mosaic," will highlight best practices for mentoring individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in biomedical research careers. The registration deadline is April 9.

Health professionals and practitioners will gather to explore ways to approach medical health, emotional/behavioral health and reproductive health among women. There is a call for abstracts with a deadline of May 1.
