MISSION AND VISION
Our mission is to diversify the legal profession,
and our vision is to become the premier undergraduate institution for producing African American attorneys.
Dillard Pre-Law exposes students to the legal profession by providing them access to lawyers, judges and other legal professionals to whom they may not have otherwise had access. Such exposure not only debunks myths of the legal profession but it also helps them make an informed choice about pursuing work in the legal profession while adding an experiential element to their undergraduate education.
Through the support of Dillard’s Legal Education Advancing Diversity (LEAD) program, pre-law students receive the preparation they need to join the legal profession. Juniors are encouraged to participate in our Foundation to LEAD program, a precursor to the LEAD program which assists students with developing the logical and analytical reasoning skills needed to succeed the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
The LEAD program, which is our main form of preparation for pre-law students, is designed to help students get admitted to law school. This is one of the most challenging steps in joining the legal profession, especially for students of color. The program consists of a 10-week LSAT Prep Book Camp, a year-long mentorship program with attorneys and judges in the community, law school application assistance, and individual advising from our pre-law advisor and LEAD Project director, Adria N. Kimbrough, Esq. These resources not only assist students with gaining admission to law schools, but provide them with lasting support.
