First Year Seminar (FYS) and University Convocation are required courses to earn a degree from Dillard University.
These courses are taught by the staff of University College and are designed to assist students in making a successful transition to Dillard University. They also help students develop the ability to cultivate essential life skills and gain knowledge of the traditions, culture, and campus life at Dillard.
The topics covered in this course include:
How to get involved in the Dillard & New Orleans community
How to take an active role in your education
How to find the many resources available on campus
How to navigate and utilize University systems
Special Notes:
Students who are nursing majors and students who are interested in the pre-law program will be in a specialized section.
Transfer students with fewer than 15 credits must complete both semesters of FYS and Convocation.
Transfer students with more than 15 credits but fewer than 30 credits must complete the second semester of FYS and Convocation.
Dual enrollment credits do not count towards the 15 credit hours.
FYS courses cannot be transferred.
